ACME Cleantech Solutions has emerged as the top bidder in India’s first-ever green ammonia auction, conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) Scheme.
Under this Mode-2A, Tranche-I auction, ACME secured a 10-year fixed-price contract to supply 75,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Limited in Odisha. The discovered tariff of ₹55.75 per kilogram, equivalent to approximately USD 641 per metric tonne, marks a record low for green ammonia in the country.
This price approaches cost parity with grey ammonia, which stood at roughly USD 515/MT as of March 2025, and is nearly half the USD 1,153/MT price discovered in the recent H2Global auction. The outcome signals a major shift in India’s green hydrogen and fertiliser landscape, driving the transition towards cleaner alternatives.
The auction is the first of 13 tenders planned under the SIGHT scheme, aiming for a cumulative procurement of 7.24 lakh metric tonnes per year, supported by a total incentive pool of ₹1,530 crore over three years.
SECI stated that the auction’s cost-discovery mechanism and payment security features directly address the challenge of offtake assurance—historically a key barrier in the green hydrogen market. These safeguards are expected to enhance investor confidence and catalyse the adoption of green hydrogen derivatives on a larger scale.
The green ammonia supplied will help decarbonise Paradeep’s fertiliser manufacturing operations, supporting India’s broader agricultural and energy sector sustainability goals.
