Transition Industries LLC has signed an agreement with Bonatti S.p.A., appointing the global energy infrastructure specialist to deliver critical infrastructure for the ambitious Pacifico Mexinol project in Sinaloa, Mexico.
Pacifico Mexinol is poised to become the world’s largest standalone ultra‑low carbon chemical production facility, with a planned daily output of 6,130 metric tonnes (MT) of methanol. When fully operational, expected in 2029, it will produce approximately 350,000 MT of green methanol and 1.8 million MT of blue methanol annually using natural gas with carbon capture.

Under the deal, Bonatti will undertake detailed engineering, procurement, construction, pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and startup of upgrades to port and jetty facilities at the Terminal Transoceánica de Topolobampo. These enhancements are crucial for safe and efficient methanol loading and export.

Additionally, Bonatti will be responsible for installing underground methanol transfer and vapour recovery pipelines, as well as dual fibre‑optic cables connecting the main methanol plant with the port site.
A standout component of the agreement is the integration of a closed‑loop water pipeline system. This infrastructure will treat and recycle municipal wastewater to meet all water needs of the project. It is projected to be one of the world’s largest industrial implementations of municipal wastewater reuse, reducing reliance on freshwater supplies and preventing environmental impact on the sensitive Bay of Ohuira region.

Balmore Brito, Project Director and Head of Engineering and Technology for Transition Industries, praised the collaboration, stating: “We are proud to have Bonatti, a world‑leader in pipeline EPCs ... Their international expertise coupled with their local field experience ... benefits project delivery and supports environmental and social sustainability.” Gustavo Blejer, Bonatti’s Commercial Director for the Americas, added: “This flagship project marks an important step toward decarbonisation ... combining global expertise with local engagement to support Ahome, Sinaloa, and Mexico.”

Pacifico Mexinol is being jointly developed by Transition Industries and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group—reflecting strong international confidence in its role within the global decarbonisation agenda.
