At the FICCI Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik announced India’s bold goal to capture 10% of global green hydrogen demand—expected to exceed 100 million metric tonnes by 2030

Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, 862,000 tonnes per annum of production capacity has already been allocated to 19 companies. Additionally, the government has sanctioned 3,000 MW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity across 15 companies

“We aim to make India not just a major producer but also a global hub for green hydrogen exports,” Naik stated, emphasising the country’s strategic focus on export-led growth.

Industry leaders at the summit highlighted critical milestones: green hydrogen has reached cost competitiveness with blue hydrogen in global tenders and India’s policy push—via measures like the PLI scheme and the green ammonia auction—has significantly boosted investor confidence.

The European Union has also shown support, planning a Hydrogen Task Force with India to enhance cooperation. With fifteen states having notified green hydrogen policies, the domestic ecosystem is primed for significant growth.
