India has set a new benchmark in its green hydrogen journey with the announcement of the lowest bid price in the ongoing green hydrogen-based ammonia auctions. State-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) revealed that New Delhi-based Jakson Green has emerged as the sixth winner under the scheme, offering to supply green ammonia at an unprecedented price of ₹50.75 per kilogram ($0.58).

Under the agreement, Jakson Green will deliver 85,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually for the next decade to fertiliser producer Coromandel International at its facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The price translates to about $580 per tonne — a milestone that underscores the sharp cost reductions in India’s green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.

The achievement is significant when compared to global trends. Last year, Fertiglobe secured a winning bid on the H2Global auction platform at around €1,000 ($1,164) per tonne — almost double the price achieved in India. SECI’s latest auction results showcase not just the competitiveness of Indian developers but also the effectiveness of the National Green Hydrogen Mission in driving large-scale adoption and lowering production costs.

This is not the first breakthrough in the series of auctions conducted by SECI, but it is the lowest bid so far. Earlier, Onix Renewable had won with a price of ₹52.5 per kilogram ($599 per tonne). Other winners included ACME at $641 per tonne, SCC Infrastructure at $610 per tonne, Oriana Power at $596 per tonne, and NTPC at $591 per tonne. With Jakson Green’s bid, India has signalled that prices are on a clear downward trajectory, bringing the country closer to its goal of making green hydrogen and ammonia cost-competitive with conventional fuels.

In total, SECI has announced results for 410,000 tonnes out of the planned 724,000 tonnes of annual green ammonia supply under this auction round. The results for the remaining fertiliser sites — spread across the country — are expected to be announced progressively through the rest of August. Once completed, the allocation will represent one of the largest green ammonia procurement programmes globally, ensuring steady demand and long-term offtake arrangements for developers.

Beyond domestic supply, India is also positioning itself as a key player in global green energy trade. In a social media statement, SECI noted that the success of these auctions will form the foundation for international partnerships. “Building on this domestic offtake success, India is now ready to explore partnerships with other geographies from Japan and Korea to Germany and beyond wherever there’s a shared vision for a greener future,” SECI said.

With fertiliser production being one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise, this development highlights how India’s policy push, combined with private sector investment, can accelerate both energy security and climate action. The results also reaffirm India’s ambition to become a global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives, reducing import dependence while opening new export opportunities.
