Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is in talks with global companies interested in co-investing in its green hydrogen and ammonia ventures, with the engineering giant open to offering minority stakes to strategic off-takers.

The discussions align with L&T’s ambition to position India as a hub for green hydrogen and ammonia manufacturing under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The company has announced plans for projects at Paradip Port in Odisha, Kandla in Gujarat and other locations across the country.

In Kandla, L&T delivered the nation’s first Make-in-India 1 MW green hydrogen plant for the Deendayal Port Authority, capable of producing up to 140 metric tonnes of hydrogen annually. Following a successful bid in a recent auction, it has secured 500 acres at the port to build a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia facility. The ₹40,000-crore development will be implemented in six phases, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-2026.

L&T Energy GreenTech—the company’s clean energy arm—is also developing India’s largest green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil Corporation’s Panipat Refinery in Haryana. Powered by a hybrid of wind and solar energy, the facility will supply green hydrogen to be blended with grey hydrogen for refinery operations.

Mr. Derek M. Shah, CEO and Managing Director of L&T Energy GreenTech, highlighted that the company is the first in India to manufacture alkaline electrolysers domestically. “We have brought in the technology, set up our manufacturing facility and will deliver a fully indigenous solution covering EPC, technology, manufacturing and engineering”, he said.
