Italian electrolyser manufacturer ErreDue S.p.A., listed on Euronext Growth Milan, has secured a €1.6 million contract to supply a 1MW green hydrogen production plant for JMG Cranes. The installation will be located at JMG’s Sarmato industrial site in the Piacenza province and forms a central part of the GrU Self-Propelled Industrial Green Hydrogen Cranes initiative. The project aims to create a Hydrogen Valley powered entirely by renewable energy, marking a significant step toward decarbonising Italy’s industrial mobility sector. The system is scheduled for delivery in June 2026 and is expected to produce up to 160 tonnes of high-purity hydrogen annually.

The plant will be built around a PEM electrolyser integrated with a 1.3 MW photovoltaic system and a 1 MW battery energy storage system. This configuration will allow hydrogen production to run entirely on renewable energy while providing operational flexibility through energy storage. The hydrogen produced will serve two main purposes: filling gas trailers for broader distribution and refuelling mobile industrial cranes at 350 bar. The project site already has the necessary infrastructure preparations, enabling ErreDue and JMG to meet the timelines established under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Industrial mobility and hydrogen valley development

Francesca Barontini, CEO of ErreDue, said the company is proud to support the creation of a new Hydrogen Valley and contribute to transforming a major industrial district through the adoption of green hydrogen. She emphasised the strategic value of the project in strengthening Italy’s industrial hydrogen capabilities and demonstrating practical applications for decarbonisation in heavy-duty and hard-to-electrify sectors.

JMG Cranes CEO Maurizio Manzini added that ErreDue’s involvement ensures compliance with the deadlines set under the PNRR and supports JMG’s vision of advancing industrial mobility powered by green hydrogen. The collaboration highlights how hydrogen can be integrated into industrial logistics to reduce emissions while building a robust local supply chain for clean fuel.

The project represents a notable example of hydrogen innovation applied at the industrial scale, linking renewable energy production with the deployment of low-carbon machinery. As Italy continues to push for cleaner industrial operations, the partnership between ErreDue and JMG Cranes demonstrates how targeted investments can support both regional decarbonisation and the growth of domestic hydrogen technology manufacturing.
