Saudi Arabia’s leading green hydrogen developer, ACWA Power, has signed a series of landmark agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at creating a fully integrated green hydrogen and renewable energy export corridor between Saudi Arabia and Europe. The partnerships, formalized under the supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Energy, signal growing international momentum around large-scale cross-border clean energy collaboration.
A key highlight is the joint development agreement with German utility EnBW (Energie Baden-Württemberg) to co-develop the first phase of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub, a state-of-the-art facility expected to begin commercial operations by 2030. The Yanbu hub will feature dedicated renewable electricity generation, desalination facilities to supply feed water for electrolysis, ammonia conversion units, and a dedicated export terminal for global shipments.
In parallel, ACWA Power signed a multi-party MoU with leading European energy companies including Edison S.p.A. (Italy), Zhero Europe, TotalEnergies Renewables SAS (France), and EnBW (Germany). The agreement seeks to assess market demand and examine the feasibility of large-scale renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia that would be dedicated for export to Europe. The partners will also explore the development of infrastructure to deliver this clean energy reliably across borders.
To support these efforts, ACWA Power also inked individual MoUs with CESI, Prysmian, GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, and Hitachi, focused on designing and developing energy transmission corridors that will strengthen supply security and enhance cross-border transmission efficiency.
