In a major move to place Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India’s green energy transition, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched the Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration-2025. The initiative lays out a detailed roadmap to establish 5 GW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity by 2029 and transform Amaravati into India’s largest green hydrogen ecosystem.
The declaration, announced in Amaravati, was jointly issued by senior state officials, international industry leaders, scientists, and policymakers. It aims to capitalise on Andhra Pradesh’s abundant renewable energy potential and long coastline to position the state as a key hub in India’s shift towards a green economy. The document outlines a vision focused on accelerating green hydrogen production, boosting domestic manufacturing, building strong research capacity, and fostering global collaboration under a sustainable governance framework.
Among its key targets, the state intends to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2029. It also plans to reduce the cost of green hydrogen significantly—from the current ₹460 per kilogram to ₹160–₹170 per kilogram. To support this, Andhra Pradesh will develop a 25 GW Green Energy Corridor to handle transmission needs and strengthen infrastructure.
The declaration calls for building a robust local supply chain, with a goal of manufacturing 60% of electrolyser components and hydrogen storage solutions within India by 2030. At least three dedicated production units will be established to anchor this effort. A ₹500 crore innovation fund will also be set up to support 50 start-ups developing advanced technologies such as high-strength carbon fibre, hydrogen cylinders, and next-generation storage materials.
Research and development activities will be led by SRM University–AP, which has been designated the state’s nodal agency. The university will host advanced testing facilities and serve as a platform for collaboration across academia, industry, and government. Annual summits will be held to review progress, share knowledge, and keep momentum alive. Additionally, a Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board will be constituted with expert working groups to help guide technology adoption, testing, and deployment strategies.
With this declaration, Andhra Pradesh signals its strong intent to lead India’s green hydrogen mission and contribute meaningfully to the country’s net-zero ambitions and global climate goals.
