The Himachal Pradesh government is ramping up its green mobility efforts by actively promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and green hydrogen as part of its broader environmental conservation agenda.
In a recent development under the Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Start-up Yojana (RGSSY), 20 electric taxis were flagged off from the state secretariat. The initiative is aimed at supporting self-employment among youth while reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector, reported PTI.
The scheme provides a 50% subsidy on the purchase of e-taxis to eligible young entrepreneurs. So far, ₹4.22 crore has been disbursed to 59 beneficiaries, with subsidies for an additional 61 individuals set to be released shortly.
The programme also ensures sustained income for beneficiaries by linking them to government offices for a period of five years, with a possible two-year extension. This model not only promotes clean transportation but also addresses youth unemployment while easing the financial burden on the state.
Beyond green mobility, Himachal Pradesh is witnessing the early impact of administrative reforms across departments. Notably, the state has climbed from 21st to 5th position nationwide in terms of delivering quality education.
The state government continues to align its policy framework with environmental sustainability, economic self-reliance, and long-term infrastructure development goals.
