The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) has kicked off a new era in clean tech with two cutting-edge centers of excellence dedicated to green hydrogen and electric vehicles (EVs), reported The Times of India.

The institute now produces its own green hydrogen on campus using 4 kilowatts of electricity generated from a hybrid setup of solar and wind power. The facility not only showcases real-time renewable energy integration but also supports hands-on learning and research in next-gen fuel technologies.

Alongside this, IET has rolled out a smart renewable energy management system, turning the campus into a live testbed for smart grid experiments powered by clean energy and hydrogen solutions.

The electric vehicle lab is equally high-tech—designed as a modular training and research space, it dives deep into the nuts and bolts of EV systems, from battery performance to motor propulsion and charging infrastructure.

Together, these hubs position IET as a front-runner in grooming talent and driving innovation in India's green energy and mobility shift.

India’s top academic and research institutions are stepping up to power the country’s green hydrogen ambitions, much like the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), which recently launched state-of-the-art centers for green hydrogen and electric vehicles. Leading the charge are premier institutes such as the IITs—especially IIT Bombay—which are deeply engaged in end-to-end green hydrogen research spanning production, storage, and utilization.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is pushing boundaries with biomass-based hydrogen generation in partnership with IndianOil, while the Centre of Excellence in Green Hydrogen (CoE-GH) in New Delhi is bridging industry and academia to build capacity and support MSMEs in the sector. Together, these efforts echo the hands-on model adopted by IET, reinforcing how academic campuses are evolving into real-world labs to accelerate India’s transition to clean energy and electric mobility.
