In a bold stride toward India’s green energy future, engineering powerhouse Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has launched a new subsidiary Panipat Green Hydrogen Pvt. Ltd. which is dedicated to developing cutting-edge green hydrogen projects.
The move signals L&T’s serious push into the clean energy space, as the company aligns itself with the Centre’s ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production and export. According to an exchange filing, the newly-formed unit will take charge of building and operating green hydrogen infrastructure while exploring associated opportunities in this fast-evolving sector.
This isn’t L&T’s first step in the green hydrogen game. Earlier this year, it snapped up land in Kandla, Gujarat, earmarked for green hydrogen and ammonia projects, an investment that hints at long-term intent and strategic readiness. With the Indian government betting big on hydrogen as a fuel alternative for hard-to-abate sectors like transport and industry, L&T is positioning itself at the heart of the transition, reported The Economic Times.
Global investors are watching closely too. International ratings agency Fitch recently reaffirmed L&T’s long-term foreign and local currency issuer default ratings at ‘BBB+’ with a stable outlook, a nod to the conglomerate’s financial resilience and future-focused strategy.
As pilot projects exploring hydrogen in public transport and heavy industry gather steam across India, L&T’s new subsidiary gives the company a front-row seat in shaping the next chapter of the country’s energy story.
