In a strategic move to scale up green hydrogen deployment, Protium—the UK’s largest green hydrogen developer has partnered with industrial software leader AVEVA to enhance its digital capabilities and accelerate innovation.

The collaboration is built around AVEVA’s digital industrial intelligence platform, which is already delivering measurable impact. Protium has reported a 30% reduction in time spent on process simulation, a 15% increase in system reliability and identification of cost-saving targets to cut maintenance expenses by 15%. The company is also aiming to eliminate 256,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and expects AVEVA’s optimisation tools to add another 5–10% savings through better utility consumption and process design.

“Green hydrogen is pivotal to the UK’s target of cutting CO2 emissions by 1 million tonnes annually by 2030,” said Jon Constable, Chief Operating Officer at Protium. “Our work with AVEVA ensures we have the right digital infrastructure as we expand operations, including the opening of a second hydrogen production plant.”

AVEVA’s cloud-based solutions will enable Protium to develop a robust digital twin, an integrated system that provides real-time visibility across operations, identifies faults, performs error analysis and boosts efficiency across the value chain. This digital setup is expected to play a key role as Protium designs, builds, and operates hydrogen assets for clients across sectors.

Caspar Herzberg, CEO of AVEVA, highlighted the broader impact of the partnership: “Our collaboration with Protium exemplifies how digital infrastructure can drive sustainability in industrial operations. The customised data platform we’ve developed will support Protium’s ambitious net-zero goals through agile, cost-effective operations.”

Founded in 2019, Protium focuses on end-to-end green hydrogen solutions using electrolytic hydrogen powered by renewable energy. AVEVA, headquartered in Cambridge, UK, provides industrial software to over 20,000 enterprises in 100+ countries, enabling businesses to digitise operations and enhance sustainability.

As the UK intensifies efforts to decarbonise its energy sector, such collaborations signal how digital transformation and clean energy are increasingly interlinked.
