Green hydrogen firm Ohmium International has named veteran energy executive Dr. Markus Tacke as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a leadership shift aimed at accelerating the company's global scale-up and commercialization efforts.

Tacke brings over two decades of leadership experience at Siemens and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. Known for spearheading large-scale transformations in renewable energy and advanced manufacturing, Tacke is expected to drive Ohmium’s expansion amid surging demand for clean hydrogen technologies.

At Siemens Gamesa, Tacke led major operational restructuring and launched a €2.5 billion cost savings program that helped stabilize the company’s wind energy business. Most recently, as CEO of Oerlikon Surface Solutions, he steered the company to 8% annual growth and boosted profitability through business integration and diversification.

“Markus brings a unique combination of strategic insight, technical depth, and global experience,” said Ahmad Chatila, Chairman of Ohmium’s Board. “His leadership comes at a pivotal moment as we scale operations and deepen our commercial footprint.”

Tacke succeeds Arne Ballantine, who co-founded Ohmium and served as CEO since its inception. Under Ballantine, the company developed an in-house PEM electrolyzer supply chain, expanded into global markets and built a pipeline of green hydrogen projects across three continents.

Reflecting on the leadership transition, Ballantine said, “It’s been an incredible journey building Ohmium from the ground up. I’m confident that Markus is the right person to lead the company into its next phase of growth.”

Ohmium, headquartered in the U.S. with manufacturing operations in India, specializes in modular and scalable proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers designed for cost-effective green hydrogen production. Its technology supports decarbonization efforts sectors such as heavy industry, transport and energy.

In 2023, the company raised $250 million in Series C funding, led by TPG Rise Climate to support manufacturing scale-up and international deployments. Its current project pipeline exceeds 2 gigawatts across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Tacke holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt and a Master’s from Cornell University said he was honored to join Ohmium at such a transformational time. “The team, technology, and mission are all aligned for global impact,” he added.
