The Government of Andhra Pradesh has proposed a headline target of ₹10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029 under the State’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand said the State aims to strengthen clean energy capacity and ensure reliable power to attract large-scale investment. He noted that the initiative will contribute significantly to India’s 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity target for 2030.

As part of this strategy Andhra Pradesh has signed an agreement with NTPC Green Energy Limited to set up a green hydrogen hub near Visakhapatnam. The hub will involve an investment of about ₹1.85 lakh crore and will support the development of the hydrogen value chain in the port region. The State expects the hub to boost industrial activity and accelerate the shift to alternative fuels.

New Centre Of Excellence in Vizag

Vijayanand also announced the upcoming Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition in Visakhapatnam. The centre will support applied research, skill development and clean energy entrepreneurship. He said that Andhra Pradesh has been a frontrunner in implementing key energy efficiency programmes and intends to expand this role through new research and training initiatives.

The ₹10 lakh crore investment proposal covers solar, wind, storage, hydrogen and hybrid systems to be developed by 2029. Officials highlighted that improved grid reliability, streamlined approval processes and strong policy support will be essential to achieving the investment target. The government aims to create a favourable environment for investors while advancing the State’s clean energy ambitions.

By combining major investment goals with hydrogen hub development and research-led institutional support Andhra Pradesh plans to position itself as a national leader in renewable energy and hydrogen. The strategy aligns with India’s vision for a self-reliant net zero energy economy.
