In a decisive move to position itself as a national leader in green hydrogen, the Government of Andhra Pradesh convened the inaugural meeting of the Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board. The event marked the unveiling of the AP Green Hydrogen Valley” roadmap, which has set targets of 2 GW in electrolyser manufacturing capacity by 2027 and 1.5 million tonnes per annum (tpa) of green hydrogen production by 2029.
At the meeting, jointly chaired by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and V.K. Saraswat of NITI Aayog, the State reiterated its ambition to exploit its 974-km coastline alongside abundant solar, wind and pumped-storage resources. Rahul Kumar, Co-AGM of AP GreenCo, highlighted the conversion of the NPCL Kakinada fertiliser plant into a 1 million tpa green ammonia facility as a strategic anchor for the hydrogen ecosystem. Partner institutions such as NTPC Green Energy Limited are developing the Pudimadaka hydrogen hub, powered by 20 GW of renewables and backed by an investment of ₹1.85 lakh crore.
The roadmap also outlines integration of hydrogen into fertiliser, steel and maritime sectors, plus a manufacturing base for electrolyser production. These steps align with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and aim to turn Andhra Pradesh into India’s first comprehensive hydrogen valley by 2030.
