In a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating India’s clean energy transition, Desco Infratech Ltd, KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia, and Naveriya Gas have joined forces to develop hydrogen-natural gas blending projects within the city gas distribution (CGD) sector. The partnership represents a key step in building green energy infrastructure and supporting India’s broader decarbonisation objectives under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Announcing the partnership, Desco Infratech stated that the three companies will jointly initiate projects that combine hydrogen with natural gas to create a more sustainable energy mix. “This partnership is a key step in building green infrastructure and supporting India’s clean energy transition. This collaboration aims to reduce reliance on LNG imports and move closer to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the company said in an official statement.

Under the agreement, KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia — a fully owned subsidiary of the KP Group — will be responsible for producing green hydrogen. Desco Infratech will contribute its engineering and technological expertise to enable the blending of hydrogen with natural gas, while Naveriya Gas will manage the integration of the blended fuel into the city gas distribution network, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply.

The blended fuel approach seeks to reduce carbon emissions while optimising the use of existing natural gas infrastructure, thereby minimising the need for costly overhauls. It also aligns with India’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and diversify its energy portfolio toward renewable and low-carbon alternatives.

Commenting on the initiative, Desco Infratech’s Whole Time Director, Malhar P. Desai, said, “By combining hydrogen with natural gas, we can lower carbon emissions, utilise existing infrastructure more efficiently, and contribute to India’s net-zero pledge.”

Headquartered in Surat, Desco Infratech operates across power, renewable energy, water, and city gas sectors, while KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia focuses on the production and application of green hydrogen as a clean energy source. Together with Naveriya Gas, the consortium aims to create replicable models for hydrogen blending that can be scaled across India’s gas distribution networks, supporting the nation’s journey toward sustainable and self-reliant energy systems.
