HYDGEN, a deep-tech start-up pioneering decentralised green hydrogen production, has raised $5 million through a mix of equity and debt funding. The round was led by Transition VC, with participation from Cloudberry Pioneer Investments (Europe), Moringa Ventures (Singapore), and strategic family offices from India and Singapore.

With this fundraiser, HYDGEN plans to upgrade its Mangaluru production facility to a semi-automated manufacturing line, expand its single-stack electrolyser capacity to 250 kW, and strengthen its presence in Japan, Europe, and the Middle East. These regions have witnessed a surge in industrial hydrogen adoption, supported by favourable policy frameworks.

HYDGEN’s platform combines the affordability of alkaline systems with the efficiency and flexibility of proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology, while eliminating the use of expensive platinum-group metals. Its modular AEM electrolysers deliver ultra-pure hydrogen at the lowest unit cost in the industry, enabling industries to produce hydrogen on-site and on-demand. This approach reduces logistics costs, strengthens supply resilience, and supports industries in their transition toward green hydrogen.

The company’s current product range spans 1 kW to 100 kW systems, with a 250-kW single stack under development for industrial-scale applications. Co-Founder and COO Manipaddy Krishna Kumar emphasised the importance of enabling industries to generate hydrogen at the point of use, saying, “Many discussions about hydrogen focus on its role in a clean energy future, but the urgent opportunity is enabling industries to have hydrogen where and when they need it, with purity they can trust.”

Over the past year, HYDGEN has deployed pilot projects across India, Singapore, and other parts of Southeast Asia, covering industrial, research, and mobility applications. Several partners have already transitioned from pilot to commercial-scale operations, validating HYDGEN’s technology and highlighting the strong market demand for decentralised hydrogen generation.

The company’s latest milestone positions it at the forefront of industrial hydrogen innovation, combining affordability, scalability, and sustainability to power the next generation of green hydrogen infrastructure.
