In a major step toward advancing its national green hydrogen strategy, Oman’s state-owned energy transition company, Hydrom, has signed an agreement with the local firm Ankaa Space & Technologies. The collaboration aims to collect and analyse precise wind data—an essential component in developing large-scale renewable energy projects that will power Oman’s emerging green hydrogen economy.
The partnership underscores Oman’s long-term vision of positioning itself as a leading regional producer and exporter of green hydrogen. Traditionally an oil and gas powerhouse, the nation is now leveraging its strong wind and solar resources to diversify its energy portfolio and accelerate its shift toward sustainability.
Under the agreement, Ankaa Space & Technologies will focus on gathering high-quality wind measurement data crucial for designing and implementing efficient wind farms and hybrid renewable systems. These systems will serve as the foundation for powering Oman’s future hydrogen production facilities, aligning with the country’s wider decarbonisation and economic transformation goals.
Abdulaziz bin Said Al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting its contribution to capacity-building and local participation. “This agreement marks a key step in engaging Omani enterprises and specialized talent,” he said. “Hydrom will extend technical guidance and implement training programs that enable Omani professionals to gain hands-on experience. These efforts strengthen Oman’s capacity to localise critical technologies.”
The initiative is a key pillar of Oman’s Vision 2040, the nation’s strategic blueprint for economic diversification and sustainable development. By fostering partnerships that blend technical innovation with local capability building, Hydrom and Ankaa aim to create a robust domestic knowledge base in renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.
Mohammed Al Riyami, Chief Executive Officer of Ankaa Space & Technologies, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing Oman’s renewable energy transition. “We are committed to executing this agreement to the highest standards and to building national capabilities,” he said. “Partnering with Hydrom provides a model of effective public–private collaboration that supports Oman’s vision to localise value chains.”
This project also reflects a global movement toward wind energy investment as a foundation for hydrogen production. Oman’s systematic, data-driven approach to developing a “bankable” and investment-ready green hydrogen ecosystem positions it strongly within the growing global clean energy market.
