India and Australia have underscored their commitment to advancing clean energy collaboration, with a strong focus on green hydrogen, net-zero transition, and resilient supply chains. The reaffirmation came during the 5th India–Australia Energy Dialogue, held on October 22 in New Delhi, co-chaired by India’s Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, and Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen MP.
The dialogue placed green hydrogen at the core of bilateral cooperation, underscoring its critical role in achieving decarbonisation goals and supporting sustainable industrial growth. Both nations highlighted the importance of building reliable and diversified energy supply chains to ensure long-term energy security and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
In a joint statement, the two governments said, “We reaffirm our commitment to serve as reliable energy partners and ensure the development of resilient and diversified supply chains.” The ministers also reviewed progress from various Joint Working Groups operating under the dialogue framework and discussed strategic pathways for accelerating clean energy deployment in both countries.
The Energy Dialogue builds on the foundation of the India–Australia Renewable Energy Partnership signed in 2024. The partnership seeks to promote investment flows, create employment opportunities in renewable energy sectors, and strengthen domestic clean energy ecosystems in both nations. It also focuses on joint initiatives for hydrogen production, storage, and trade infrastructure—key enablers for expanding the global green hydrogen economy.
India and Australia share a vision of positioning themselves as regional leaders in renewable energy innovation and green technology development. Through this collaboration, they aim to integrate green hydrogen into critical supply chains while promoting cross-border research, capacity building, and the deployment of industrial-scale projects.
The dialogue reinforced both countries’ shared objectives of achieving net-zero emissions, accelerating technology transfer, and fostering public–private partnerships in clean energy. By aligning policies and enhancing collaboration, India and Australia are working to strengthen the Indo-Pacific’s clean energy architecture, paving the way for a sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
