An Indian delegation led by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, concluded its visit to Denmark after intensive discussions with stakeholders across the energy sector. The talks underscore the two nations’ shared commitment to deepening cooperation in clean energy.

During the visit, the delegation engaged with organizations such as the Danish Meteorological Institute, Ørsted Balancing Responsible, the Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm, Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2), UNEP-CCC, CCS groups and CopenHill, exploring how thermal assets can operate within a renewables-based power system.

An Indo-Danish Roundtable on Green Hydrogen and Maritime Collaboration was jointly hosted by the Embassy of India in Denmark, the Indo-Danish Chamber of Commerce, Dansk Industri, GH2, BrintBranchen and State of Green. Ambassador of India to Denmark, Manish Prabhat, called for long-term collaboration between the two countries’ green energy sectors, with a special focus on green hydrogen.

A key meeting was held between Agarwal and Lars Frelle-Petersen, Denmark’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, during which they reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and explored opportunities to enhance it.

Concurrently, the 7th Joint Working Group Meeting on Power between India and Denmark was held, with the Indian side led by Srikant Nagallapulli, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power and the Danish delegation led by Ulrik Eversbusch, Director, Danish Energy Agency. The discussions spanned the full spectrum of power cooperation.

Energy cooperation has been a cornerstone of the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark since its establishment in 2020 and the latest engagements reflect rapid progress in bilateral collaboration. In May, India and Denmark signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Agarwal and Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Denmark’s Ambassador to India, inked the MoU in the presence of Manohar Lal, India’s Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs. The renewed agreement signals ongoing commitment to accelerate clean energy transitions.

The expanded MoU broadens cooperation into advanced domains such as power system modelling, integration of variable renewable energy, cross-border electricity trading and the development of EV charging infrastructure. It also emphasises knowledge exchange via expert interactions, joint training programs and study tours. According to the Ministry of Power, this renewal supports India’s net-zero by 2070 goals and strengthens sustainable energy collaboration.
