French renewable hydrogen producer Lhyfe has inaugurated Germany’s largest commercial renewable hydrogen production site in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg. The 10 MW facility will produce up to 1,200 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year and is fully certified as a RFNBO (Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin) under European Union regulations.
The site will serve a variety of industrial and mobility clients, distributing hydrogen through modular container units and dedicated refuelling stations. Operations will begin after the testing phase is completed later this year.
Supported by the State of Baden-Württemberg, the European Union, and local partners including the Hydrogen Hub initiative, the project represents an important milestone in Germany’s drive towards low-carbon, locally produced hydrogen.
The Schwäbisch Gmünd site also supports regional decarbonisation plans and contributes to the EU’s target of producing 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030.
Matthieu Guesné, Founder and CEO of Lhyfe, said the facility demonstrates how hydrogen can be produced at scale using 100 % renewable power and integrated directly into industrial and mobility ecosystems.
