NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan-based ENEOS Corporation to explore collaboration in the supply of green methanol and other green hydrogen derivatives. The MoU was exchanged on October 10, 2025, during the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, marking a major milestone in strengthening international cooperation for clean energy solutions.

The partnership complements NGEL’s ongoing efforts to establish a large-scale green hydrogen ecosystem in India. The company is currently developing a 1,200-acre green hydrogen hub at Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, which is envisioned as an integrated centre for green chemical production and exports. The Pudimadaka hub will leverage NGEL’s extensive expertise in renewable power generation and hydrogen-based technologies to produce and supply sustainable fuels for both domestic and international markets.

Through this collaboration, NGEL and ENEOS aim to address the rising global demand for green hydrogen derivatives such as green methanol and ammonia, while facilitating technology exchange and trade in renewable energy products. The partnership also strengthens India’s position as a global participant in the emerging green hydrogen economy and highlights its capability to become a key supplier in Asia’s clean energy value chain.

The agreement supports NGEL’s strategic goal of achieving a 60 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2032, in line with NTPC’s broader decarbonisation objectives. It further aligns with India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions, reflecting the nation’s growing leadership in sustainable energy solutions. By combining NGEL’s renewable energy infrastructure with ENEOS’s technological and market expertise, the collaboration is expected to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen and its derivatives at an industrial scale.

Both companies reaffirmed their commitment to advancing global decarbonisation and promoting innovation in green energy supply chains. The partnership underscores the shared vision of NGEL and ENEOS to drive the transition towards low-carbon energy while fostering industrial cooperation between India and Japan in pursuit of a sustainable future.
