Stargate Hydrogen, a European deep-tech company pioneering ceramic-based electrolysis technology, has entered into a partnership with OX2, a leading developer of renewable energy solutions, to accelerate the deployment of industrial-scale green hydrogen production in the Nordic region. The collaboration marks the commercialisation of Stargate Hydrogen’s 10 MW Aurora electrolyser platform, representing a significant step forward for hydrogen infrastructure development in Northern Europe.
The first project under this partnership will be developed in Åland, Finland, which is set to become a key hub for large-scale green hydrogen production. The hydrogen facility will be powered by Stargate Hydrogen’s newly launched 10 MW Aurora electrolyser system. Once operational, the project will establish one of the largest hydrogen production assets in the Nordic region, utilising cutting-edge, European-developed hydrogen technology. It will also position Åland as a strategic renewable energy hub for the Nordic countries.
Beyond its industrial significance, the project aims to drive the transformation of local society by decarbonising multiple sectors, including heavy industry, road transport and maritime operations. This aligns with the broader “green corridors” initiative designed to promote cleaner shipping routes and sustainable energy infrastructure across the region.
The partnership between Stargate Hydrogen and OX2 underscores a shared commitment to decarbonisation and energy innovation. It reflects both companies’ focus on creating scalable, efficient hydrogen solutions that contribute to achieving Europe’s net-zero targets while enhancing the competitiveness of the regional hydrogen economy.
In parallel with the Åland project, Stargate Hydrogen and OX2 will collaborate within the ABB-led H₂ Springboard program — a major hydrogen innovation initiative supported by over €150 million in R&D investment. Through this initiative, the partners will co-develop modular hydrogen systems with strong export potential, accelerate technology validation and engage new partners across the hydrogen value chain.
The agreement cements Stargate Hydrogen’s position as a key technology provider for next-generation hydrogen electrolysers and reinforces OX2’s leadership in renewable energy project development. Together, the companies aim to create a sustainable blueprint for industrial hydrogen production in the Nordics and beyond.
