NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has opened the doors for Indian and global developers to participate in the development of green hydrogen and green chemical projects at the national green hydrogen hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh. The invitation for Expressions of Interest (EoIs) marks a significant step in advancing India’s green hydrogen capabilities.

The Pudimadaka hub is designed to become a major centre for sustainable chemical production, targeting an annual output of 2.5 million metric tonnes. The hub will produce a variety of green chemicals, including green ammonia, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), and green urea. The project’s ambitious infrastructure plans include a 7 GW electrolyser capacity, 7.5 GW GIS substations, and 7.5 GW of transmission lines linked to the central transmission utility substation.

In addition to the core production facilities, the hub will be equipped with a captive port or jetty, a desalination plant, chemical storage, logistics support, utilities, and shared infrastructure to support industrial operations. This integrated approach aims to create a self-sufficient environment for green chemical manufacturing, facilitating efficiency and scalability.

According to the tender guidelines, eligible projects must source renewable power, water, and other essential inputs solely from NGEL. The required renewable energy will be supplied by NGEL from within Andhra Pradesh, ensuring that all operations adhere to sustainable energy standards.

Earlier this month, NGEL commissioned 100 MW of the IRCON Renewable Power Limited’s 500 MW project at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka. This milestone demonstrates NGEL’s ongoing commitment to building renewable energy capacity and supporting India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.

Through the Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub, NGEL aims to strengthen India’s position in the global green hydrogen sector while promoting sustainable industrial growth. The EoI process invites collaboration with developers capable of meeting the technical and operational standards set by NGEL, paving the way for a significant leap in the country’s green energy initiatives.
