Stargate Hydrogen has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia’s Research, Development, and Innovation Authority (RDI) to strengthen cooperation in the field of green hydrogen. The partnership underscores Saudi Arabia’s push to develop advanced technologies and diversify its economy in line with its long-term energy transition and industrial decarbonisation goals.
RDI, a government body responsible for driving scientific research, technological advancement and innovation across the Kingdom, will work closely with Stargate Hydrogen to explore opportunities that strengthen Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness in emerging industries. The agreement was facilitated by Apex Ventures under RDI’s Global Startups Attraction Programme, run in partnership with the Ministry of Investment.
Under the scope of the collaboration, several initiatives have been outlined. A key step will be the establishment of Stargate Hydrogen KSA, which will serve as the company’s regional headquarters in Riyadh. From this base, Stargate aims to localise its proprietary green hydrogen technologies for deployment in the Kingdom, working closely with Saudi manufacturers to develop local production capacity. This localisation strategy is designed not only to accelerate deployment but also to contribute to the growth of domestic industrial capabilities.
The partnership will also extend into academia and research. Stargate Hydrogen will collaborate with leading Saudi institutions, including King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), to conduct joint research and generate intellectual property within the country. By working with Saudi researchers, the company hopes to anchor knowledge creation locally and ensure long-term innovation in green hydrogen technologies that are relevant to regional industrial needs.
To effectively implement the cooperation, a joint steering committee will be established to oversee progress and coordinate efforts. This committee will be supported by dedicated operational teams from both parties, ensuring that the initiatives move beyond the planning stage into concrete execution. Regular workshops, technical exchanges and stakeholder meetings will be held to maintain close alignment across government agencies, industrial partners and research institutions.
The focus areas of the collaboration will include accelerating technology transfer, strengthening the regional hydrogen value chain, and identifying practical solutions for industrial decarbonisation. With Saudi Arabia investing heavily in hydrogen as part of its Vision 2030 goals, the partnership with Stargate Hydrogen offers a strategic opportunity to bring in global expertise while building domestic capacity that can support the Kingdom’s ambitions to become a leading player in the global hydrogen economy.
For Stargate Hydrogen, the agreement represents an important step in expanding its footprint in the Middle East, one of the fastest-growing markets for hydrogen investment. For Saudi Arabia, it reinforces its commitment to positioning itself not just as a producer of hydrogen but also as a hub for technological innovation and advanced manufacturing in the sector. Together, the two sides hope the partnership will accelerate the path to a low-carbon future while creating long-term value for the Saudi economy.
