EPC contractor TKIL Industries, formerly known as thyssenkrupp Industries India, has partnered with Swiss manufacturer SoHHytec to establish a green hydrogen plant in India, expected to be operational within the next year, company officials said.

The collaboration combines TKIL Industries’ engineering, procurement, and construction expertise with SoHHytec’s advanced technology. SoHHytec employs proprietary artificial photosynthesis, also known as photo-electrolysis, to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, for industrial applications.

“We are quite hopeful that within the next 12 months, you will see us building a green hydrogen plant using our technology,” said TKIL Industries MD & CEO Vivek Bhatia. The company is currently in discussions with stakeholders across sectors such as steel and oil for green hydrogen plant development. TKIL Industries will act as the EPC player, building plants for companies that require green hydrogen and handing over the facilities once completed.

SoHHytec is recognised globally as a cost-efficient technology for green hydrogen production. TKIL Industries will serve as SoHHytec’s exclusive partner in India for manufacturing and supplying specialised equipment and machinery, in addition to installing green hydrogen projects.

The initiative aligns with India’s National Hydrogen Mission, which provides a policy framework aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels, expanding renewable energy capacity, and achieving a production target of five million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030.

Bhatia added that TKIL Industries is focusing on integrating new technologies and expanding existing facilities. While the company is not constructing an entirely new plant at present, it is adding additional bays to existing facilities to increase capacity. “We will consistently invest around Rs 25–50 crore each year to expand capacity. Once space runs out, we will consider major investments,” he noted.

In addition, TKIL Industries has partnered with German manufacturer HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co to develop battery systems for India’s rail sector, further strengthening its role in supporting India’s renewable energy and sustainable technology initiatives.
